Though not a whole lot is known about this martyred saint, it is known that she was brave and had a great and strong faith. She was known to have helped Swedish people during a famine by bringing them wheat to make bread through the winter and there are many other courageous stories and legends about her as well.
So, in the spirit of the Swedish celebration, we made Saint Lucia crowns ( thanks Pinterest:)
and Amelia woke early and carried a breakfast tray by candlelight into Sam and then to Jubilee ( Joel was already at work). I have to say, it was pretty sweet. She took her role very seriously and Sam was so excited and pleased to get to eat breakfast by candlelight.
We read and so enjoyed the book "Kirsten's Surprise", and we also did some copy work using poems about her. We will definitely plan to do this each year as another way to celebrate being lights in the darkness, just as Saint Lucia was.
The Cox's came over later in the morning and we made cinnamon ornaments and then gave in to Amelia's persistent requests to make "maple syrup snow candy" like they do in the Little House Christmas story. It was actually really, really tasty!
